What are opposite leaves?

Def: Stems or leaves appear across from one another at the same node;

Arrangement Along Stem:
Opposite leaves may appear in either a distichous or decussate arrangement.

Distichous: Leaves arranged in two ranks along either side of the stem.

Decussate: Leaves arranged in opposite pairs, rotating 90° at every node.

As with many features, arrangement along the stem is not always opposite decussate or distichous.
